Ellsworth (Red) Hazen Hewitt, entered into eternal rest, Monday, September 22, 2008 at home in Dendron. He was born on October 30, 1931, in Hyde Park, Massachusetts, son of the late James Levi Ellsworth Hewitt and Amy M. Smith Hewitt. Red graduated from Dedham (Massachusetts) High School. He worked in Boston until 1967 when he moved to Petersburg, Virginia. He retired from Allied Signal in 1987, where he worked in the Technical Center and was a member of the Allied Emergency Brigade. Redâ??s warmth and smile were loved by all; he was an avid Red Sox fan, loved gardening and was an accomplished, lifelong bowler.
He was the husband of the late Marie Guardabascio Hewitt who passed away on September 2, 2000. Red is survived by his loving family: wife, Dorothy Presson Hewitt, daughter, Aila (Penny) M. Louk (children Scott C. Milby and Amy M. Dehus (JP)), sons Donald J. Hewitt (wife Pepper, children Douglas, Heather), Gary A. Hewitt (son Jacob), and Stephen M. Hewitt, (wife-Bernice). His first great grandchild, Mason is due to be born soon.
He is survived by stepchildren: Carol Presson Evans, Marie Benjamin (Brian), John Presson (Paige), Ginger Presson, Mary Cutchins (Roland), Robert Presson, Jennifer Ervin (Leslie), Katrina Powers (David), 15 step grandchildren and 2 step great-grandchildren, all of which loved him dearly. Red married Dorothy Presson Hewitt in 2004.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 24, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the Purviance Chapel in Wakefield. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Infant Jesus of Prague Catholic Church, Wakefield, officiated by Father Charles Saglio and Father Carl DeSouza. Internment will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery, New Bohemia. Memorial donations may be made to Crater Community Hospice, 840 West Roslyn Road, Suite E, Colonial Heights, VA 23834. The family is being served by J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Purvaince Chapel in Wakefield. Condolences may be posted at www.jtmorriss.com .
