Elnora Barbara Green

February 7, 1933 — September 5, 2018

Elnora Barbara Guillory, affectionately known as “Nora”, was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana on February 7, 1933 to Gaslar and Oxcelia Guillory. She was baptized at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lake Charles where her early life was spent growing up with her eight siblings on her parents’ farm. Her father, wishing to provide a better, safer, more prosperous life for his family, moved them to San Bernardino, CA in 1943, where Nora spent her formative years. She enjoyed school and attending Mass with her family at Christ the King Catholic Church in San Bernardino. From her first marriage to Toniace Prud’homme, five children, Phyche (Penny) Phyllis, Creel (Bobby) Winslow, Bryan LaMont, Dietrich (Dee Dee) Joyce, and Gori (Mister) Lang were born.
Nora met, fell in love and married her life partner, Oliver Martin Green, and their youngest child, Melvina (Bina) Raye was born. Oliver was a young soldier in the U.S. Army who embarked with his wife, Nora and blended family on a military life of travel, adventure and duty to country. Nora embraced her role as an Army wife, accompanying her husband to every duty station, providing the support, strength and stability needed at home that allowed Oliver to build his military career and serve honorably. Nora took care of their children and “kept the home fires burning” alone many times while Oliver was deployed to a war zone, or away in training. She became adept at packing up the family, “clearing quarters” and moving on to the next duty station to set up a household for her family. Additionally, at each Army post, and duty location, Nora supported Army family life by volunteering in different activities such as hospital volunteer, teacher’s aide, Chaplain’s assistant, Army Community Service, and wherever there was a need. She especially enjoyed participating and serving in the Army Wives Club at each Post where she made many good friends throughout the years.
Nora felt privileged to have had the opportunity to travel to many different countries while stationed with Oliver in Germany and see the many wondrous, historical sights. She and Oliver made sure that their children saw as much of Europe as possible and understood the importance of being able to visit such places. Nora also enjoyed shopping and collecting many different cultural items while abroad.
Nora’s other talents included sewing, crocheting, knitting, and many arts and crafts. She lovingly handmade baby blankets, baby booties and hats for each of her grandchildren.
Nora was preceded in death by her cherished son Bobby, her parents Gaslar and Oxcelia, and her beloved husband Oliver. Siblings that also preceded her in death are, Hubert, Mildred, Lois, Delores, Ageast, Darryl, and Christine.
Left to cherish her memory are her children Penny Westerman (George), Las Vegas, NV; Bryan Prud’homme (Michelle), Louisville, CO; Dee Dee Gustafson (Paul) Las Vegas, NV, Gori Prud’homme and Melvina Myrick, Chester, VA; sister Bertina Guillory Napier (George), Ocala, FL; grandchildren Lisa Sandford (Andrew) Sherman Oaks, CA, Anthony Kenitzki (Becky) Las Vegas, NV, Bryan Kenitzki, Clark Fork, ID, Renee Prud’homme (Alex), Oxford, England; Jonathon Myrick (Toyette), Richmond, VA and Demitria Myrick, Prince George, VA. Her legacy continues on with great grandchildren, Thomas, Sarah, Jill, and Christian Kenitzki; Makhi Robinson and Madison Myrick. Also remembering Nora fondly are in-laws Zoe Coleman and Patsy Green, San Bernardino, CA; Erma Jean Tucker (Reuben), Edgewater Park, NJ; Roy Green, Santa Monica, CA; Annette Overstreet, Colton, CA; Lorena Dean (Lawrence), Altadena, CA, and Alonzo Green (Lois), Lake Charles, LA., and a host of nieces, and nephews, including Goddaughter Nelda Faye Treggs, Long Beach, CA.
