Elwood Ellis Spiers, 90, of Carson, Va. passed away Sunday, January 20, 2013. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ann Catherine Spiers; daughter, Lynn Lastovica; great-grandson, Logan Lastovica; and step-mother, Noble Spiers. Mr. Spiers served his country proudly as a Technical Sgt. in the U.S. Army. During World War II he served as a Mortar Gunner while in combat in the islands of the South Pacific and Japan. He retired from DuPont after 41 years as a lab technician. He is survived by his sons, Donald E. Spiers and his wife Peggy of Columbia, MO, and Steven F. Spiers and his wife, Dreama of Richmond, VA; 6 grandchildren, Matthew Spiers and his wife, Amanda, Michelle Schmeissing and her husband, Scott, Walter J. Lastovica Jr. and his wife, Lauren, Katie Lemon and her husband, Luke, Julia Spiers and Meredith Spiers; great-granddaughter, Callie Spiers; sister, Margaret Guthrie; son-in-law, Walter Lastovica; and special friend, Lee Allen. Family will receive friends from 6-8:00p.m. Thursday, January 24, 2013 at the Chester Chapel of J.T Morriss & Son Funeral Home, 3050 W. Hundred Rd. Chester, VA 23831. A graveside service will be held Friday, January 25, 2013 at 3:30 p.m. in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 4000 Pilots Lane Richmond, VA 23222.
