Emily Kraemer Kitchen, 84, of Chester, VA passed away on Wednesday, August 30 2017 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Born in Petersburg, VA she was the only child of the late Karl E. and Gwendolyn Wright Kraemer; and was also preceded in death by her husband, William E. Kitchen. Emily was a 1955 graduate of Randolph Macon Woman’s College and was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. In 1968 she was named Virginia’s Outstanding Young Woman for her work as a Senior Programmer with the National Radio Astronomy Observatory. Mrs. Kitchen retired from A.H. Robbins (Pfizer) after many years of service. She was a longtime member of Chester Presbyterian Church and the Virginia Tech Golden Hokies Club. She is survived by many loving family and friends. The family would like to thank her caregivers at Sunrise of Bon Air and to Hospice Community Care for their love and care shown toward Mrs. Kitchen. A service will be announced at a later date. The family is being served by the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Chester Presbyterian Church in memory of Mrs. Kitchen.
