Emma Jane Buhls Wallace, 70, a resident of Waverly, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008 with her loving family by her side. Born in Surry County, VA, she was the daughter of the late Jasper Ray and Irene Thomas Buhls and the widow of Robert Daniel Wallace. She was a 1956 graduate of Surry High School where she excelled in sports and was voted â??Most Athleticâ? and was Treasurer of her senior class. She also was an All-State drummer in the Surry High Band. Emma Jane graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1959 from the Louise Obici School of Nursing in Suffolk and worked as an RN for Obici Hospital from 1960 â?? 1968. She worked at the Kenner Army Hospital on Ward B2 at Ft. Lee in Petersburg from 1968 until she retired in 1996. She was also a member of Wakefield Baptist Church and the Surry Ruritan Club.
Emma Jane is survived by her daughter, Martha Marie Galloway and her husband, Billy, of Waverly; three grandchildren, Robert Daniel Galloway, Faith Nicole Galloway, and Ashley Maria Massey; two nephews, Kendall Ray Buhls and Wendall Ray Buhls; and a niece, Sharon Reneâ?? Thornton of Knottâ??s Island, NC. She was predeceased by a grandson, William A. â??Willâ? Galloway, IV, and a brother, Jasper Ray Buhls, Jr. Emma Jane was a devoted and loving caregiver as a wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, and to her many patients through her years in nursing.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 10, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Wakefield Baptist Church with the Rev. James Kerr officiating. Interment will follow in Mill Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery, Ivor. The family will receive friends Saturday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Purviance Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Wakefield, and following the interment Sunday at a reception in the Fellowship Hall of the church.
