Ernest Mitchell

Ernest Preston Mitchell, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday January 16, 2011 in Mitchellville, MD. Prior to serving God in Maryland, he was a member of First Baptist Church in Petersburg for more than 30 years. He served on the Usher Board and sang in the choir. Ernest retired as a Technician from Allied Chemical Technical Center where he was employed for over 31 years. He loved to golf, hunt, fish, and was an avid outdoorsman. He was a member of the Beaux Twenty Club and Club 36. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Madie W. Mitchell, son, Lafayette Eugene Mitchell (Jacqueline) of Maryland; daughter, Rev. Valerie Mitchell Davis (Ralph) of Maryland; son, Kris Ivan Mitchell (Marcia) of VA; 6 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Ida Beatrice Black of NJ; nieces that were reared in the home with him: Cynthia H. Griffin and Gwendolyn H. Shaw (Arthurly) of CT; Goddaughter, Twanda Meade and Godson, Bertram Boisseau of VA. A funeral service will be held Saturday January 22, 2011 at 12:00 PM with viewing 11:00 AM prior to the service at First Baptist Church, 236 Harrison Street, Petersburg, VA., with Rev. Jeremiah Tillman officiating. Interment will be in Blandford Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society or the National Stroke Victims Foundation.
