WHITLOCK, Esther C. (â??Tessâ?), 88, of Prince George, VA, lost her valiant fight with cancer and went home to the Lord on Saturday, December 1, 2007. Tess was born June 14, 1919, in Cresson, PA, to the late Homer S. and Katherine (Schwaderer) O'Neill, one of ten children. She joined the Army Nurse Corps and served with the rank of Captain in North Africa, Anzio and Southern Europe during World War II. Upon assignment to the Panama Canal Zone, she met and married Charles (â??Chuckâ?) T. Whitlock in March 1951. Tess retired from active duty, but accompanied her military husband around the globe while raising three children and taking an active part in community and church-related service wherever she found herself. Tess returned to her nursing career after her husbandâ??s final assignment to Fort Lee. Tess served as a Red Cross Volunteer and pioneered the Prince George County Food Bank while serving with numerous community beautification groups. Tess was a member of the Catholic Church of the Sacred Heart and took an active role in social ministry and outreach to seniors. Tess will be remembered for her boundless energy and enthusiasm, her dedication to family and the joy she brought to every occasion. Surviving are husband of 56 years, Chuck Whitlock; daughters, Kathy Whitlock of New York; Jennifer Boyer and husband, Joseph of Richmond; son, Terry Whitlock and wife, Becky of Georgia; and five grandchildren, Megan Whitlock, Christopher Whitlock, Danielle Whitlock, Chase Boyer and Sean Boyer. Also surviving are three sisters, Kathleen Burkhart, Jane Beers, and Twila Robine, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Hopewell, on Monday, December 3, 2007 from 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, December 4, 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Sacred Heart, Petersburg, with interment in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George. In lieu of flowers, family requests contributions be made to the Church of the Sacred Heart Building Fund, 9300 Community Lane, Petersburg, VA 23805.
