Ethel Edwards Bailey, 90, of Wakefield, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 19, 2012. Born in Surry County, she was the daughter of the late Oscar Lee and Wilma James Edwards. She is survived by her daughters, Rachel B. Billups (Jimmy), Marie B. Williams (John), Cindy B. Chappell (Wayne), and Juanita Bailey Hacker; ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the Wakefield United Methodist Church, the U.M.W., and a former member of the Wakefield Christian Church. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Confederacy, General Mahone Chapter, the Wakefield Womanâ??s Club, and also volunteered at the Wakefield Library for a number of years. Many will remember her working with the Sussex County School System as a cafeteria worker from 1966 to 1994. She continued as a foster grandparent working with kindergarten and first grade from 1994 to 2004.
The family will receive friends at the Wakefield Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Thursday, June 21, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, June 22, 2012 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Ray Rowland officiating. Burial will be private.
