Eugene L. “Gene” Alexander, of Chester, VA passed away on January 15th, 2018 at the age of 74, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Lynn Clarke Alexander, and three children; Jodi Alexander Siebenberg (Scott), Justin Alexander (Cara), and Aimee Alexander Wheeling (Junious Mays); grandchildren, Allisson Siebenberg, Austin Turner (Wil), Alex Wheeling, Ainsley Alexander, and Sterling Mays; brother, Craig Crawford (Brian), sister, Candice Crawford (Christina) and was preceded in death by his sister, Cheryl Martin.
Gene had a successful career as a skilled and talented diesel mechanic, business owner, and salesman. He was gifted with a practical mind and a gregarious personality. He could fix anything with an engine and he never met a stranger.
Over the years he enjoyed many hobbies such as: hunting, fishing, relic hunting and splitting wood. He was a licensed scuba diver, licensed private pilot, proud member of Masonic Temple #9, owned and rode Quarter horses, loved motorcycles and antique engines. An avid reader of history, Gene loved researching the Civil War, and remembered watching his grandfather plow up Civil War relics and artifacts on his farm. He had an amazing memory for details, and an innate ability to tell a story. As time and ill health caught up with him, he enjoyed spending more time closer to home, getting to know his neighbors, entertaining family, and his beloved rescue cats, Smokey and Dutch.
He was a good man, who loved with his whole heart and lived with no regrets. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 19th at J.T. Morriss & Son, Chesterfield Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 20th at Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chesterfield County Police Foundation, P.O. Box 1684, Chesterfield, VA 23832.
