Eulala Gwaltney Wells, 90, of Hopewell passed away on Thursday, March 15, 2012. She is preceded in death by her husband, Clayton Grant Wells; her parents, James T. and Mattie Edwards Gwaltney; and eight older siblings. Mrs. Wells is survived by her daughter Anita W. Race of Hopewell; three grandchildren and spouses: Deanna and J.C. Ayscue of Colonial Heights, VA, Jaime and Jeff Deringer of Manns Harbor, NC, and John Little and Michelle Nyce of Wilson, NC; four great-grandchildren: Josh and Jessica Ayscue, Hannah Deringer, and Ethan Nyce; brother-in-law, William Wells; sister-in-law, Myrtle Wells; several nieces and nephews; and other family and friends. Mrs. Wells enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, traveling, and the gatherings of her Hopewell High School graduating class of 1940. She retired from Hopewell Oil Company (now Parker Oil) where she worked as a bookkeeper. She also found great fulfillment in helping and caring for others. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 19, 2012 at Appomattox Cemetery.
