Evelyn Jeanett Cornett, 69, of Disputanta, passed away Saturday, October 3, 2009, at Southside Regional Medical Center in Petersburg. Born April 24, 1940 in Isle of Wight County, she was the widow of Russell Louis Cornett. She was also predeceased by a brother, Frank Jones. She was a member of the Waverly Baptist Church. Jeanett, a homemaker and avid gardener, took great pride in her family and cooking for her â??kids.â?
Surviving members of Jeanettâ??s family are her daughter, Evelyn C. Ford and her husband, Marshall, of Matoaca; Jeanettâ??s life companion, Carl Scott, of Waverly; her mother, Mary V. Jones of Waverly; a granddaughter, Hannah Ford; three stepchildren, Chris Scott, Kevin Scott, and Kathy Torrence; four step-grandchildren, Joshua and Justin Scott and Caleb and Abram Torrence; a sister, Judy Dunlow; a brother, Bob Jones; and a special niece, Tammy Williams.
A funeral service will be held Monday, October 5, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Purviance Chapel, J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Wakefield, with Brother Temple Holdsworth officiating. Burial will follow in Waverly Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence, 26309 Petersburg Rd., Disputanta. Memorial donations may be made to Waverly Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O.
