Evelyn "Nitty" Gibbs

June 16, 1922 — February 6, 2013

Evelyn “Nitty” May Jackson Gibbs, 90, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Wednesday, February 6, 2013. Born in Petersburg, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Bessie Jackson. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Alvin L. Gibbs; six brothers, Ivan, Charles Jr., Aubrey, Elmer, Eldred, and John Jackson; three sisters, Inez Durphey, Mary Bowman, and Shirley Jackson. Evelyn retired from Fort Lee after 30 years of dedicated service as a Military Personnel Clerk, and was a proud member of Blandford United Methodist Church in Prince George. She is survived by her loving sister, M. Joyce Garrett; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm on Monday, February 11, 2013 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at the Funeral Home. Interment to follow in Blandford Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be donated to Blandford United Methodist Church, 11607 South Crater Rd., Petersburg, VA 23805, or Odyssey Hospice, 2801 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, VA 23834.
