Evelyn Mason Hunter, 100, formerly of Hopewell died Monday, October 3, 2005 in Westminister Canterbury in Richmond. She was born in Spotsylvania County, VA and had made her home in Hopewell from 1928 until moving to Richmond. Mrs. Hunter was the last surviving founding member of the Board of Directors of John Randolph Medical Center, she was a member of St. John?s Episcopal Church, the Hopewell Woman?s Club and graduated as a registered nurse in 1924 from Mary Washington Hospital School of Nursing in Fredericksburg, VA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Chastine & Alice Simpson Mason, her husband Dr. Charles Edward Hunter and a son, Roy Mason Hunter.. Mrs. Hunter is survived by a daughter, Page Hunter Allen and her husband, Dr. Thomas C. Allen of Jesup, GA, 5 grandchildren, Dr. Clark Hunter Allen of Pocatello, ID, Julia Mason Allen of Chubbuck, ID, Susan H. Hicks of Mechanicsville, VA, Ellen M. Hunter of Hopewell, Charles E. Hunter, II of Prince George and 6 great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 8, 2005 at 3:00 P.M. in Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Bruce Bevans, Rector of St. John?s Episcopal Church officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John?s Episcopal Church, 505 Cedar Lane, Hopewell, Virginia, 23860.
