Evelyn Beckham Mondy, 100, of Hopewell died Tuesday, September 25, 2007, at her residence. She was born on November 10, 1906 in Farmville, VA and had been a long time resident of Hopewell. Mrs. Mondy was a graduate of Longwood College where she was valedictorian of her class, a communicant of St. Johnâ??s Episcopal Church, a devoted supporter of Merchants Hope Church and Cove Presbyterian Church, a charter member of Merchants Hope Foundation, a member of Frances Bland Randolph Branch of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a member of the Jamestowne Society, and a member of the Hopewell Womanâ??s Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Paul W. and Maude B. Hamner Beckham, her first husband, William Lee Broaddus, Sr. her second husband Robert Lane Riggs and her third husband Joseph Sheppard Mondy. Mrs. Mondy is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Broaddus Kelly of Seal Beach, CA, a son, William Lee Broaddus, Jr. of Prince George County, five grandchildren, C. Meriwether Broaddus, Warner R. Broaddus, Margaret B. Stubbs, Margaret A. Shelton and Sarah E. Kelly, 3 great grandchildren, one step-daughter, Betty Lane Robbins of Chester, 4 step-grandchildren and a sister, Maude B. Foster of Vienna, VA. A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 29, 2007, at noon in Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Bill Taylor, Rector of St. Johnâ??s Episcopal Church officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Johnâ??s Episcopal Church, 505 Cedar Lane, Hopewell, Virginia 23860, Merchants Hope Church, 11500 Merchants Hope Road, Prince George, Virginia, 23875 or Cove Presbyterian Church, 5531 Covesville Lane, Covesville, Virginia, 22931, The family is being served by the Hopewell Chapel of J.
