Sgt. Everette L. Messer, (Ret), 81, died peacefully at his home on Friday, May 22, 2009. He was a retired Sgt. from the U.S. Army with 21 years of service and a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was a member of Sycamore United Methodist Church and a member of the Prince George Ruritan Club. Mr. Messer was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Viola and Patton Reece and a brother, Toy Reece. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Alma Lee Messer, three sons, Donald L. Messer, Dennis L. Messer and his wife Rose, Richard F. Messer, two daughters, Carol M. Crawford and her husband David, Barbara J. Messer, eight grandchildren Bonnie Lambert, Billy Michael and his wife Jenny, David Wayne Crawford, Jr., Eric Crawford, Ryann Messer, Christina Messer, Marcus Crawford, Heather Messer and two great grandchildren, Carter and Corrine Huddleston, four sisters, Eunice Lowe of Aiken SC, Reva Williamson and her husband Arnold of Petersburg, VA., Ila Cagle and her husband Roy of Knoxville, TN, Ovella Willis and her husband Lee of Newport, TN and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Monday, May 25, 2009 from 6:30 to 8:00 PM in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service, with full military honors, will be held Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sycamore Expansion Fund, 9710 Old Stage Road, Prince George, VA 23875 or Crater Community Hospice, 3916 S.
