Fely Picart Thompson

April 26, 1928 — November 19, 2015

Fely Picart Thompson of Colonial Heights, passed away on Thursday, November 19, at Lucy Corr Health Care Center. She was born in Baguio, Philippines and was the daughter of the late Amado and Elisea Picart. Fely was preceded in death by her husband, John Bernard Thompson, son, James Marito Thompson, and great-granddaughter, Mikayla Thompson.
Fely spent her formative years attending private female boarding schools and later graduated from Saint Theresa’s College, Philippines. A talented pianist, she received additional training at Peabody Conservatory of The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. Fely was a private piano teacher for over five decades. She married John Thompson during World War II and they had seven children.
Fely was a lifelong volunteer, having made significant contributions as a Den Mother in Cub Scouts, Army Community Service volunteer, Fort Lee, where she logged over 500 hours of volunteer work, and at Southside Regional Medical Center where she was the President of the Hospital Guild/TWIGS for twenty years. Fely was the recipient of numerous awards and distinctions for volunteerism including The Catherine Green Award presented by the Quartermaster General of the U.S. Army.
Left to cherish her memory are her brothers and sisters, Mildred Dezzani of Surprise, Arizona, Jessie Rickards of Montebello, California, Romeo Picart of Amsterdam, Holland and Baguio, Philippines, Lyda Sierra and husband, Paco, of Sydney, Australia, Mario Picart and wife, Estrellita of Sydney, Australia, many nieces and nephews, six children and their spouses, Patrick Joseph Thompson of Pennsylvania, Michael Kevin Thompson and wife, Laurie Lampley Thompson, of Mechanicsville, Virginia, Maria Thompson MacLaughlin and husband, Rev. Mr. Matthew MacLaughlin, of Dinwiddie, Virginia, John Bernard Thompson, Jr. and wife, Kathy Morrissette Thompson, of Colonial Heights, Daniel Timothy Thompson and wife, Constance Pear Thompson, of Sandston, Virginia, LTC Stephen Picart Thompson and wife, Jennifer Andrews Thompson, of Burlington, North Carolina, and Carol Lumba Thompson of Petersburg, Virginia. Fely has 23 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
The family of Fely Thompson extends sincere thanks to the staff and nurses of Lucy Corr, Bermuda Unit, for their extraordinary compassion and care.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 24, by Father James Gallagher at Church of the Sacred Heart, Prince George, Virginia, followed by interment in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the church followed by a Rosary Service at 7:30 p.m.
