Ferney Edwin Singletary

October 26, 1929 — August 30, 2016

Ferney Edwin Singletary, died Aug. 30, 2016 in Colonial Heights at age 86. He was born on Oct. 26, 1929, in Roanoke Rapids, N.C., but he spent most of his life in Virginia. His family knew him best, they knew of his love for them, it’s something he said countless times for many years, and his deeds showed his devotion. Ferney spent his career serving our nation, on active duty, and then as a civilian. After he retired, dad was focused on his family. Dad loved to read and to be at home, but most of all he enjoyed being with loved ones. Dad helped to provide a home that was marked by unconditional love, and a home of laughter, warmth, loyalty and comfort. He was central in the creation of that home through his many years of steady and consistent work. His love was a gift that he gave to his family without question or doubt. Dad is now with his beloved wife, Gloria Franklin Singletary, who passed away in 2012. He is survived by his sons, Timothy, Kenneth and Mark, also survived by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many other relatives, including the people who knew him will remember him. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016 in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Prince George Emergency Crew, 10800 Prince George Drive, Disputanta, VA 23842. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com .
