Fletcher Lee Bell, 72, of Hopewell, died Sunday, May 23, 2010, at his residence. Mr. Bell was born in Petersburg and was the son of the late Archie Glaris and Mary Warren Jones Bell and was predeceased by his brother Edward Lynn Bell. He was employed with the Hopewell Bureau of Fire from May 1, 1962-November 29, 1993. He obtained the rank of Battalion Chief during that time. He was an avid fisherman and held the state record for large mouth bass in 1972. Mr. Bell is survived by a brother, Donald Wayne Bell,Sr., three nephews, Donald Wayne Bell, Jr., Michael L. Bell, & Ronnie Ellis and wife, Terri; two nieces, Patty Tyus and husband, Mike and Mary Fitzsimons and husband, Ray; 3 great-nephews Hayden Bell, Ryan Fitzsimons and Chris Fitzsimons; 2 great nieces Courtney Ellis and Maranda Ellis and an aunt, Lucille Sodomka. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 25, 2010 from 7 to 8:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Baptist Church followed by a service at 8:00 with the Rev. Ken Hendricks, officiating. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester, VA. with Deacon Joe Sumner leading the service.. Friends and family will gather at the Hopewell chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home and process to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, Wesy Chapel, 117 Fort Hayes Drive,Petersburg VA, 23805. Condolences may be registered with www.jtmorriss.com
