Fletcher L. Mayton, age 86, of Petersburg, VA passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2010. He was a well known painting contractor in the area for many years. Mr. Mayton was one of the founders of the Namozine Volunteer Fire Department starting in 1959. He served the fire department as the assistant Chief or Chief for many years. Mr. Mayton was a past president and member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles for over fifty years. He was a charter boat captain for many years and took out fishing parties. Mr. Mayton was a great hunter and past president of Poverty Hunt Club in Brunswick County. He killed a trophy moose while hunting in Canada. Mr. Mayton is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Edna E. Mayton; a brother, James P. Mayton of Nashville, TN; a son, Fletcher E. Mayton, Sr. of Sutherland, VA; a granddaughter, Chelsea Mayton of Dinwiddie, VA; a grandson, Fletcher E. Mayton, Jr. and wife, Michelle; three great grandchildren, Mitch, Megan, and Sean Wesley, all of Hanover County, VA; numerous nieces and nephews; and best friend, â??Buddyâ? Pee Wee Hudson of Colonial Heights, VA. The family will receive friends at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Thursday, February 4, 2010 from 1 to 2 p.m. with a funeral service beginning at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park.
