Florence Peltier Molaison

Florence "Flo" Peltier Molaison, 97, of Newark, Delaware, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, to be with her beloved husband of over 50 years, Warren Molaison. Born in 1925, in Thibodaux, Louisiana, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence James Peltier and Marie (Gaudet) Peltier.

Florence grew up in Thibodaux, Louisiana, where she attended Thibodaux High School and excelled in sports, was president of the senior class, president of the 4-H Club, captain of the basketball team for 2 years, and named Queen of Homecoming Day her senior year. She went to Southwestern Louisiana Institute (currently known as University of Louisiana Lafayette) in Lafayette, Louisiana. A few accomplishments at Southwestern Louisiana include member of Lambda Omega, president of the Newman Club, president of the Red Jackets, president of the PEM Club, keeper of the grades for Tri Sigma, and she participated in Intramurals. She graduated with a BS Degree in 1945. She then taught Physical Education and Driver Education, as well as coached the girls basketball team, at Raceland High School, in Raceland, Louisiana. It was at the high school where she met her husband, Warren, while he was home visiting. After being married they lived in Baton Rouge, until Warren graduated from LSU. Florence then stayed home to raise a family. They first lived in Wilmington, Delaware, until being transferred to Hopewell, Virginia. Florence lived the majority of her married years in Virginia, but did live in Delaware again for 6 years, where she refereed basketball and volleyball at the high school and college levels.

Florence was a devoted Catholic and faithfully attended weekly Mass. After her children were grown she played tennis for many years. She often won the singles and doubles club championships. She also enjoyed accompanying Warren on the golf course, especially when they spent time in Florida. She and Warren enjoyed traveling to all of the states in the US, in their motor home, for many years. They camped in almost every single state in the country. They enjoyed taking their grandchildren for short camping outings as well as taking their children on road trips whenever there was a reason. Florence also played bridge with a couple bridge groups until she was into her 90's. She volunteered for a variety of community needs, such as election polls.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Warren Molaison; sisters, Frances and Cecila, five brother-in-laws; three sister-in-laws; one son-in-law; and one daughter-in-law.

Florence is survived by her sister, Theresa Toups; her children, Ritchie Molaison (Roseann), Robert Molaison, Jane Adams, Joan Couch, and Lee Molaison (Judy Reidmiller); nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the many caregivers who took extraordinary care of Florence over the last few years, Gloria Michaelle, Jennifer, Marie, Noddine, Tinnue, Felicia, Monique, and Carmen.

A celebration of Florence's life will be held on Monday, February 27, 2023, at 2:00PM, at St. James Catholic Church, Hopewell, Virginia 23860. The family will receive friends for a visitation one hour prior to the service, from 1PM-2PM. Internment will follow at Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens, Hopewell, Virginia.
