Florence Bernice “Polly” Pride, 86 passed away on March 17, 2004 at her residence after a long illness. She was born in Chesterfield County to Norman Augustus and Florence Varnier Pride. She attended Colonial Heights School (Flora Hill) and Petersburg High School. She graduated from Farmville State Teachers College (Longwood) and received a Masters Degree from The College of William & Mary. She taught at Toano, Virginia, Saint Augustine, Florida and in Chesterfield County at Bellwood Elementary, Matoaca Elementary and C.C. Wells Schools. She was the Principal of Matoaca Elementary School for ten years. She was a long time member of Highland United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Blanche Pride and Doris Denny; two brothers, Earle and Linwood “Deeda” Pride. She is survived by three brothers, Norman of Colonial Heights, Owen of Geneva, Florida and Thomas of Chesterfield County, eight nieces and four nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 am Saturday, March 20, 2004 in the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. David B. Lewis officiating. Interment will be in Blandford Cemetery. Family will receive friends 7-8:30 pm Friday at the funeral home. Flowers are welcome or a donation to the Highland Methodist Building fund, P.O.
