Florine Sophie Gwaltney Williams, 93, of Petersburg went to her rest on Thursday, July 7, 2011.
She was the daughter of the late James T. and Lucy Daniel Gwaltney and wife of the late Thomas Franklin Williams, Jr. She was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Laurie, her brothers, James T. Gwaltney and John Gwaltney and her children, James T. Williams, Sr. and Ronnee Cashat.
She is survived by her brother, Granville Gwaltney of Chester, her grandchildren, Thomas and Jennifer Cashat of Boykins, John Cashat of Virginia Beach, Tony and Tracey Williams of Columbia, MD, Michael and Petra Williams of Petersburg, Tanya and Roger Smith of Craigsville and James T. and Diane Williams, Jr. of Colonial Heights. In addition to her six grandchildren she is survived by eleven great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.
Florine was a lifelong resident of Petersburg and worked as a photographer for the Progress Index in the 1960s. She was known by many for her interest in quilting and numerous homes today are warmed by one of her hand made quilts.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at the Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Rd, Petersburg, VA 23805. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com
