Floyd Mcneal Maitland, Sr.

Floyd M. Maitland, Sr. “Groundhawg”, 71, of Dinwiddie, VA passed away on May 19, 2021. Born in Smoky Ordinary, VA on February 2, 1950 to the late William Byrd Maitland and Lillian Lorine Maitland. He is also preceded in death by his partner of more than 30 years, Rose M. Fisher; siblings, Judy Finch, Cliff Maitland and Nancy Ozmore. He is survived by his children, Floyd McNeal “Neal” Maitland, Jr. (Tina), William Edward “Billy” Maitland (Stephanie), Tammy Maitland Walls (Chris), Jamie Maitland Dempesis (Brian), Terri L. Harland (Will), Chip Harrup (Melanie); grandchildren, Codie Maitland, Chase Maitland, Caleb Maitland, Brodie Maitland (Meagan), Levi Maitland, Kiersten Thompson (Dustin), Karina Hall (Ian), Kolleen Walls, Regan Richardson, Savannah Maitland, Jaelyn Ford, Zacherie and Ashton Caudill, Ella Harland, Bryce Harrup, Bradyn Harrup; 5 great-grandchildren, Aspen Maitland, Charleigh Thompson, Hunter Hall, Walker Hall, Reed Harrup; Siblings, William Maitland, Allen Ozmore, David Hawkins and Martha Barreto; mother of his children, Wanda Jean Bridgeman. Floyd did construction most of his life but loved hunting, fishing and playing golf for fun. He also loved to play poker with his buddies. He was a member of the Red Hill Hunt Club and Ivy Bluff Hunt Club. A visitation will be held on Monday, May 24, 2021 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm with a Funeral Service on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at 2:00 pm at J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Dinwiddie Chapel, the Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Floyd’s honor to James River Hospice.
