Floyd Lee Peebles

August 28, 1944 — December 8, 2023

On December 8, 2023, after a brief and unexpected period of illness, one of God's angels, Floyd Lee Peebles gained his glorious wings while at Bon Secours Hospital in Mechanicsville, Virginia. Floyd was born August 28, 1944, in Petersburg, Virginia and remained in the area for the duration of his life. Although his most recent residence was in Dinwiddie, Virginia, he always had great hopes for Petersburg and was glad to call it his home. Floyd was the son of the late Mary Grace and Goodwyn Peebles. He was a loving husband, father, coworker, and friend. He is survived by his wife of 9 years, Kathleen Mitchell Peebles; mother of his children, Patricia A. Peebles; his daughters Crystal and Jasmine Peebles; his bonus children, Kenneth and Heather Mitchell; and a host of cousins and friends. Floyd graduated from Peabody High School in 1963 and soon after began working at Fort Lee. He was later employed at Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company where he worked for many years, Nabisco Corporation, Petersburg Area Transit and eventually retired from Dominion Energy in Chester, Virginia. Floyd was always a diligent worker and took pride in his work and providing for his family.
One of the many joys that Floyd had was watching movies. His favorite was "The Equalizer" starring Denzel Washington. He loved it so much that he adopted one of Denzel's famous taglines as his own. "The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why." Floyd lived his life with God at the forefront with the desire to fulfill his "why." His second joy was thought provoking conversation. Anyone that was around him was guaranteed to be blessed with words of encouragement, hope and the mysteries of God. Floyd lived his life with strength, courage and tenacity and always encouraged everyone in his presence to do the same. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son on Tuesday, December 19, 2023. A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday at the funeral home, with interment to follow in Dinwiddie Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Heart Association who were excellent in his care and/or to the Special Olympics who treasured him and the time he spent as a volunteer: American Heart Association Gift Processing Center, PO Box 78851, Phoenix, AZ 85062-8851; NB Clements Jr., High, 7800 Laurel Spring Drive, Prince George, VA 23875, C/O Prince George Special Olympics, **Please make all checks payable to NB Clements and put Special Olympics in the memo section.**
