Frances Carmen Slayden, 88, of Dinwiddie, VA, entered into eternal rest on Monday, November 24, 2008 after a long illness.
She was born on October 23, 1920, to the late John Eugene and Edith Thelma Westmoreland Myrick. She was also preceded in death by her late husband, Samuel â??Buddieâ? Slayden. Frances was a life long member of West End Baptist Church and held many positions in Sunday School. She was very active in keeping up with the members of her class. She was also a member of the Senior Choir, serving on numerous committees. Frances was preceded in death by infant twin daughters, a sister; Ethel Southall; and three brothers; Wilson Myrick, John Myrick, Jr, and Glenn Myrick.
She is survived by her sons, Wayne Slayden and wife, Bonnie; R. Ivan Slayden and wife, Linda, S. Blair Slayden and wife, Barbara. She also leaves to cherish nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren, one step-great-great grandchild, three sisters; Mildred Smith of Petersburg, VA, Arlean Akin of Chesterfield, VA, and Elizabeth Harris of Colonial Heights, VA, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday, November 26, 2008. Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 AM Friday November 28, 2008 at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home officiated by Rev Robert Rowland of Smyrna Baptist Church and Rev John Crocker of West End Baptist Church. Interment will be in Blandford Cemetery.
