Francis Demaris

Frances Johnson DeMaris, 86, of Sutherland, passed away Friday, May 23, 2008 at St. Francis Medical Center. Born in Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Phillip and Mildred Woodfin Miller. Prior to joining Ocran United Methodist Church, she was an active member of Crowder Memorial Baptist Church for many years as a Sunday School teacher, choir member, and an active participant in BYTU activities. She was a member of VFW Post 622 Ladies Auxiliary and in earlier years enjoyed volunteering with the Girl Scouts. Ms. DeMaris was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Otis Miller and a sister, Hazel Miller Hartnett. She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Johnson Glass and husband, James Edward Glass of Sutherland; grandchildren, Michael Tilton Glass also of Sutherland and Lisa Glass Schuster and husband, Kurt Thomas Schuster of Chester; great-grandchildren, Caroline Grace Schuster, Melanie Ray Schuster, and Samuel James Schuster. She is also survived by a niece, Jane Miller Stewart and a nephew, Robert Phillip Miller. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 PM Monday, May 26, at Ocran United Methodist Church. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, in the church cemetery, with the Rev. Gene C. Tatum officiating. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com .
