Frank Sodomka, 87, of Hopewell, passed away on October 17, 2005. Mr. Sodomka was born October 17, 1917, in Prince George County. He married Lucille West Sodomka on September 18, 1941.
Mr. Sodomka served in World War II with Company E of the 188th Glider Infantry of the United States Army. He was credited for service in battles and campaigns of New Guinea, Southern Philippines, and Luzon. He was awarded The American Theater Campaign Medal, Asiatic ? Pacific Theater Campaign Medal with three Bronze service stars, and Philippine Liberation Theater Campaign ribbon with two Bronze service stars. After an honorable discharge, Mr. Sodomka returned to the Hopewell area in 1946.
Mr. Sodomka, along with his wife, were well known in Hopewell as the founders and owners of Frank?s TV and Appliances, a very successful enterprise from 1952 until 1980.
Other than his wife, Mr. Sodomka is survived by two sisters, Vee Lewis and Emily Scott, both of Hopewell. He is also survived by nieces and nephews:Frederick Sodomka of Great Falls, Montana, Roberta Rucker of Goochland, Stan Sodomka of Charlottesville, Donald and Betty Lewis of Hopewell, Linda Whippo of Richmond, Fletcher and Donald Bell of Hopewell.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 20, 2005, from 7 -8:30 p.m. in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A funeral will be held on Friday, October 21, 2005, at 1:30 p.m. in West End Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Kevin Collins, Pastor, Rev. Wayne Good and Rev. Cecil Smith officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester, Virginia.
