Fred C. Jones, 80, a resident of Waverly and husband of Phyllis Uzzell Jones, died Saturday, January 2, 2010, in a Hopewell hospital. Born August 17, 1929, in Isle of Wight County, he was the son of the late Willie Theodore Jones and Mattie Mae Jones. Fred was a retired truck driver and attended Faith Baptist Church in Waverly.
Besides his wife of 55 years, Phyllis, he is survived by two daughters, Theresa Bailey and her husband, Arnie, and Phyllis Marie Inman and her husband, David; two brothers, Jeff and John Davis Jones; two sisters, Christine Clark and Helen Pruitt; four grandchildren, William Hipes, Michael Smith, Laura Ann Krumm, and Mindi Gentry; and a great-granddaughter, Allison. He was predeceased by a daughter, Norma Jean Jones; a son, Fred Earl Jones; a grandson, Mickey Lee Jones; and a sister, Naomi Sue Jones.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Purviance Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Wakefield, with Rev. Raleigh Nunnally officiating. Burial will follow in Mill Swamp Church Cemetery, Ivor. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Waverly Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 583, Waverly, VA 23890.
