Fred Harrison Minson, Jr., 93, of Colonial Heights, passed away on January 12, 2019. Born in Petersburg, he was the son of the late Fred Harrison and Helen Johnson Minson. He was a World War II army veteran, serving in the European theatre of operations with the 506th combat military police battalion in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a postmaster for the United States Postal Service from which he retired after over 40 years of service. In retirement, he went on to manage a local Jackson Hewitt tax office where he worked well into his eighties. He was a past exalted ruler of the fraternal order of the Elks and one-time president of the TPA in Petersburg. In his spare time, he was a talented carpenter, worked with stained glass and ran a picture framing business. Fred was a faithful parishioner at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Though his life was full, the time he spent with his family is what he cherished the most. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Jean Moran Minson, and a son, Fred H. “Ricky” Minson III. He is survived by his children, Stacy M. Wallace, Andrew T. Minson and Kelly M. Guilford; grandchildren, Steve Guilford (wife Amanda), Kate Guilford, Brynn Wallace, Jasper Minson, Byron Minson, Grace Minson; great-grandchild, Emily Rose Guilford; and daughter-in-law, Sherry Minson. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 17, 2019 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 18, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 151 W. Washington St, Petersburg, VA 23803.
