G. Hughes

Gene Thomas â??Hogjawâ? Hughes, 60, Colonial Heights, passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at his residence. Born in Petersburg, he was the son of the late William Thomas and Rachel Barricks Hughes. He was a 1965 graduate of Petersburg High School and was a member of the 1964 Petersburg High School championship football team. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Petersburg for over 50 years and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Hughes is survived by his best friend, Sue Humphries Hughes; son, Gene T. Hughes, Jr. and wife, Beth; step-son, David Newton and wife, Leah; grandchildren, Dylan T. Hughes, Madeline, Gabriele and Angeleah Newton; sister, Patty H. Pugh; brother, Marshall Hughes; and his faithful companion, Roxanne, his American Bulldog. A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday, December 14, at Blandford Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. Dean Frazeur officiating.
