Gary Wayne Ballard, 82, of Providence Forge, VA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 13, 2021. He is preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Roma V. Ballard. He is survived by his sister, Barbara Jean Ballard, his children, Wayne Ballard, Vickie Butler, Paul Robertson and wife, Christine, and Jessica Woodford and husband, Brent, his grandchildren, James Butler, Jr., Randy Butler, Bryan Butler and Reighan Ballard, and his great-grandchildren, Phillip Butler, Shania Butler, Hunter Butler, Ayden Butler, Nicolai Butler, Nathaniel Butler and Kailani Butler. Born and raised in Virginia, Gary was a member of the first Prince George High School band as a lead trumpet player. He would often recall the time he and his fellow bandmates played at the Rose Bowl. After high school, Gary served 4 years in the Army military band. A millwright by trade, after his military service, he worked in construction as a foreman and eventually lead mechanic for Park 500, Phillip Morris, where he retired after 20 dedicated years. A witty jokester, Gary would often make people laugh at his jokes or silly comments. Gary enjoyed the beach, fishing, and collecting stamps and guns. A huge history buff, Gary would often tell stories of past events as if he were there himself. He was a loving husband, caring father and wonderful grandfather. He will truly be missed. A visitation will be held on Friday, July 16, 2021 from 11:30 to 1:00 p.m. at the J.T. Morriss & Son Hopewell Chapel, 820 W Broadway, Hopewell, VA 23860.
