Gary Jr. Belcher

Gary Robert Belcher, Jr., 70, of Hopewell, passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2011. He was the son of the late Gary Robert, Sr. and Grace Mae Neal Belcher and was a lifelong resident of Hopewell. He was preceded in death by sister, Kathleen Belcher Hughes and brother, James Edward Belcher. Mr. Belcher attended Hopewell High School and served in the Naval Reserve from March 1958 to September 1962. He worked at Firestone Corporation until the plant closed and at Hopewell Redevelopment and Housing Authority. Gary was a long time member of American Legion Post #146, Fraternal Order of the Moose Hopewell Lodge and served on the Board of Vantage Point Credit Union. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Judy L. Belcher; daughter, Robin A. Duncan and husband Charles; son, Gary Robert Belcher III and friend, Amy Spaulding; granddaughter, Danielle L. Billings; nieces, Toni Ledgerwood, Beth Nielson; and several great nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service on Friday, February 25, 2010 from 6 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 26, 2010 in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Bermuda Memorial Park, Chester., Va. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post 146 or the American Cancer Society.
