Gaylord "Skip" Thompson

Gaylord "Skip" Dean Thompson, 87, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2024, at his residence.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Katherine Thompson; his wife of 30 years, Dona Thompson; and his son, Kenneth Thompson.

Skip was employed as a truck driver, working with the company Great Coastal for many years. Skip also served his country honorably in the United States Army as both a medic and a paratrooper, prior to retiring after serving for 20 years. Skip loved to travel, especially with his wife, and they both put many miles on his motor home, traveling across the continental United States. Skip was very proud of his house, which was a log cabin which he built 30 years ago and lived in until his passing. Skip also loved his dog, Precious.

Skip is survived by his two sons, LeRoy Thompson and Dean Thompson (Ferrol); bonus son, Robert Barfield; grandson, Michael Thompson; bonus granddaughter, Emily Sorensen; and caretaker and friend, Ivory Riley.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held the following day, Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at 10:00 AM, at the funeral home. Interment will take place that same day at 2:00 PM, at Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia, 10300 Pridesville Road.
