Gene Allan Johnson, Sr.

Gene Allan Johnson, Sr., 75, of Dinwiddie County, VA, passed away on Friday, June 2, 2023. Born in Chesterfield, VA, he was the son of the late Rufus J. and Leatha Moye Johnson; and was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Donna Thacker Johnson; four brothers, Earl Johnson, Benjamin Johnson, Arthur Johnson, and Jessie Johnson; and two sisters, Virginia Hayes and Dorothy Slusser. Mr. Johnson was a United States Army Veteran having faithfully served his country during the Vietnam War. Following his discharge from the Army, he continued his career as a civil servant having retired from Fort Lee after many years of dedicated service. Mr. Johnson was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time with his dogs. He is survived by his three children, Cindy Leonard (David), Diana Wallace (Ricky), and Gene A. Johnson, Jr.; seven grandchildren, David, Emily, Caleb, Rosa, Alexander, Ruby, and Rocky; two great-grandchildren, Serenady and Grayson; two sisters, Barbara Lackey (Johnny) and Joyce Petty; and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, June 9, 2023, at Bermuda Memorial Park, Chester, VA. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your local SPCA in memory of Gene Allan Johnson, Sr.
