George Anthony Elko, 92, of S. Chesterfield, departed this life Monday, May 29, 2017. Born June 28, 1924 in Chesterfield County to the late, John W. and Tonie C. Elko. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Ensign Joseph Elko and John Elko; and sister, Mary Goodwyn. George is survived by wife, Dorothy Elko; step-children, Russell Perdue (Vanessa), Linda Clark (B.J.) and Deborah Perdue; brother, Vincent Elko (Lucille); sisters, Anna Lee Von Richter, Kathleen Forlenza (Nick) and Louise Fisher (Larry); his dog and faithful companion, Ginger; and numerous nieces and nephews. George graduated from St. Joseph School in 1941. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1943 to 1945. After the military he went into the hardware business for a short time before going into home building. He held several patents on gutter guard and picture frame clamps. George was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Petersburg and served as an Usher for 60 years. He was member of the Knights of Columbus #694, the American Legion #284, AARP Crater Chapter #1399, and past member of the home builders association. George loved wood working, gardening and fishing. A Rosary Service with visitation to follow will be held at 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, June 1, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 151 W. Washington St. Petersburg, VA., 23803. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 2, 2017 at church with Fr. Brian Capuano, officiating. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Church Cemetery, Petersburg.
