George Raymond Hamlett Sr., 67, of Wilsons, Virginia, who was born at home in Prince Edward County, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2012. He was retired from Phillip Morris after thirty years of service. Mr. Hamlett enjoyed collecting John Deere Memorabilia and tractors. He loved fishing, going to the ocean, and spending time with his family and friends everyday. Mr. Hamlett is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Hamlett; son, William Hamlett; parents, Clarence and Maggie Thompson Hamlett; and a brother, Lawrence Hamlett. He is survived by his sons, Raymond G. Hamlett and wife Michelle, George R. Hamlett Jr., Scottie L. Hamlett, and Curt W. Hamlett and wife Shannon; grandchildren, Dustin and wife Melisa, Richard, Keleigh, Tiffany, Elizabeth, Brandi, Mariah, Brandon, Shane, Brenton, Haley, Kayla, Brooke, and Ciara; great grandchildren, Nathan, Faith, Dustin Jr., Hope, Emily, and three additional great-grandchildren on the way; sisters-in-law, Lorraine Hamlett, and Joan F. Robinson; mother-in-law, Katherine Miller Eades; brothers-in-law, Edwin Ripley and wife Polly, and Curtis Eades; numerous nieces and nephews, and family and friends. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 5, 2012. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 6, 2012 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, with Dr. Ivan Perkinson officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Blackstone, Virginia. Condolences may be registered online at
