George Harrison

d. November 2, 2008

George Franklin Harrison, 63, went to his heavenly home on Sunday, November 2, 2008, after an illness of six months. He was born in Petersburg, VA, and resided in Matoaca for most of his adult life. He was the son of the late Roy T. and Grace Whitby Harrison of Petersburg. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Harrison Mason, of Lawrenceville, GA. George is survived by his devoted wife of 42 years, Linda Rowlett Harrison; two sons, Michael and wife, Robbin, Brian and wife, Mandy. He leaves four adored grandchildren, Jordan, Makayla, Savannah and Seth Harrison; a niece, Scotty Mason Garrett of Mobile, Alabama. He is also survived by his â??adopted sonâ?, Charlie Thacker, his wife, Nan and their children, Bryce and Gray. He served his country as a member of the U. S. Army Reserve from 1967 to 1971. Retired from Verizon after 40 years of service, George held several positions within the company, the last being cable maintenance. During that time, he was a member of the Petersburg Chapter Telephone Pioneers of America and the Community Relations Team. It is undeniable that his greatest joys were worshiping God, traveling with his family, frolicking with his grandchildren and helping others. He was an avid Nascar fan and a long time Coca Cola memorabilia collector who enjoyed hunting with his sons and buddies. His broad smile, sweet spirit and the professed love of his Savior will linger in the hearts of all who had the privilege of crossing his path. George was a devoted and much loved member of Matoaca Baptist Church, serving in numerous capacities, including Deacon and Sunday School Director. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, November 7, at Matoaca Baptist Church with Pastor Donald Joyner officiating. Interment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, VA. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday at Matoaca Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Matoaca Baptist Church, 6409 River Road, Matoaca, VA 23803. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com .
