George Jay Mccormack

December 31, 1958 — February 6, 2024

George Jay McCormack, 65, of Henrico, VA, died on February 6, 2024. Jay, son of the late Waller J. McCormack and Nellie Weeks Keys, was born on December 31, 1958, and raised in Roanoke, VA. Jay graduated from Northside High School in Roanoke and started his first job at Lendy's, where his love for the restaurant industry began, and he made lifelong friends. Jay did a lot of moving around in his time, from Virginia to North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. His all-time favorite place he called home was Johns Island, SC, and he claimed he would move back there if the opportunity ever arose. His career in the restaurant industry brought him many connections to so many people. He even once owned his own chain called PoFolks.
Jay was a loving son, father, grandfather, and brother to his family. He was the youngest of his siblings and loved his mother dearly, always signing cards to her with, "your baby." He adored his brother and sister and kept in touch with them weekly. Jay loved his two kids so much. He bonded with his son over football, their careers in the restaurant industry, and long talks at night. They were one another's best friend. He also made everyone aware how proud he was of his baby, his daughter. Before he walked her down the aisle on her wedding day, he said to her, "I'm a nervous wreck, baby!" That is a memory they laughed at repeatedly in the years following. If there was one thing everyone knew about Jay, it was that he loved to talk! He could get you on the phone and before you knew it, an hour would fly by. He was so funny and loved telling stories. He also loved being outside-taking long walks around his favorite park or sitting on the back porch grilling and listening to music. He also loved growing tomatoes and peppers in his garden.
He is survived by his son, Greg McCormack and wife Alora; daughter, Kara McCormack and wife Gretchen; grandson, Koen McCormack; sister, Darlene Merritt and husband Gary; brothers, William McCormack and wife Barbara, Dannie McCormack and wife Sheryl and Warren McCormack and wife Barbara; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Jay loved wearing a colorful Polo and khakis, please pay respects to him by wearing some color or even a Polo brand shirt in his memory. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com .
