George Alexander Mcdaniel

George Alexander McDaniel, 87, of Hopewell, VA., passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2017, and has returned to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. George was the son of the late William O. McDaniel Sr. and Rosa Mentlik McDaniel of Hopewell, Va. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Bessie Lee Draper McDaniel; two daughters, Elizabeth Kimberly Ange (Jimmy), and Georgette Alexandra Cargill (Ray); five grandchildren, Katie Ange-Felker, Lucas Ange, Julie Gray, Nicholas Cargill, and Tony Cargill; five great-grandchildren, Taylor, Alessa, Charlotte, Kinsleigh and Olivia Lee; two brothers, Gerald McDaniel of Hopewell, VA, and Ronald McDaniel of Evansville, Ind.; one sister, Rosemary Aufill of Prince George, VA. George attended Hopewell High School and was a member of the 1949 State Championship Football team. He graduated from Fork Union Military Academy. George served his country proudly in the U.S. Army and National Guard and served in the Korean War. He retired after 42 years of service from Allied Chemical. He was a member of West Hopewell Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon for many years. The family will receive friends from 6p.m. to 8p.m. on Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11a.m. on Thursday, August. 3, 2017 at the funeral home with interment to follow in Blandford Cemetery Petersburg, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the West Hopewell Presbyterian Church – Missions Fund 2602 Wise St. Hopewell, VA 23860 in his honor.
