George Bailey Robinson, 84, a lifelong resident of Petersburg, VA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 31, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Prince Robinson and Fletcher Bailey Robinson and siblings Virginia Elizabeth Robinson, James Prince Robinson Jr. and Martha Robinson Carter. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth Long Robinson, his daughter Mary Reed and her husband, John, and his son George “Robbie” Robinson Jr. and his wife Tara, along with numerous nieces and nephews. George was literally born on Berkley Ave in Petersburg, in the house where he lived through his graduation from Petersburg High School. He then attended the University of Richmond until being drafted into the US Army. As an MP in the Army, George chased down cattle rustlers in Texas and watched hydrogen bomb testing in the South Pacific. He returned home to Petersburg after serving active duty and went into the dry cleaning and, later, grocery businesses with his father Prince and older brother Jimmy. George also managed South Sycamore Realty until his death. George loved God, his family, helping others, the Redskins and gardening, and was active in numerous charitable organizations, including Meals on Wheels in the Tri-Cities. Visitation begins at 1pm, Saturday, Aug. 4th, at Second Presbyterian Church, 419 W. Washington St., Petersburg, VA, to be followed by the funeral service at 2pm. A private graveside service will follow at Blandford Cemetery. The family thanks all of the nurses, nurses aids, therapists, doctors and other healthcare workers for their tireless efforts.
