George Alvis Thompson, 84, of DeWitt, passed away Tuesday, December 21, 2010. He was the son of the late William Dailey and Minnie Wray Thompson. Predeceased by his eight brothers and sisters, Mr. Thompson was a life-long member of Rocky Run United Methodist Church. He was an avid turkey hunter, loved baseball and his family. He was honorably discharged from the U. S. Army and received a World War II Victory Ribbon for his service. He is survived by his loving wife, Lois Thompson; children, Judy Hawkins and husband Ken, William A. Thompson and wife, Brenda, and Donald M. Thompson; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Laura Hawkins, Drew, Benjamin and Alex Thompson. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Rocky Run United Methodist Church, 14925 Glebe Road, DeWitt, Virginia. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dinwiddie Volunteer Rescue Squad, 10027 Boydton Plank Road, Dinwiddie, Virginia.
