George Allen Washburn

George Allen Washburn, 77, of Hopewell, Va passed away, Saturday, March 4, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Babe and Thelma Washburn; a son, George “Jason” Washburn; and his loving wife, Kay Washburn. He is survived by his granddaughters, Haley Washburn and her fiancé, James Bradley, Megan Washburn, and Abigail Sweeny and husband, Chris; a great-granddaughter, Willow Bradley; a brother, Carl Washburn; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Washburn; and special friends for over 45 years Chuck and Linda Strand. George served his country proudly during the Vietnam War and retired from the U.S. Army with the rank of Sergeant Major. After his retirement from the Army, George went to work at Fort Lee as a civilian where he retired with over 20 years of service. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 9, 2017 at J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, 820 W. Broadway, Hopewell, VA. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 9, 2017 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your local Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Mr. Washburn.
