Gerald Lee Jones

Gerald Lee Jones, 88, of Prince George, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2023. Born in Johnston County, North Carolina, raised in Petersburg, Virginia, he was the son of the late, Mildred Adams Jones; and was also preceded in death by his daughter, Beverly McCallister; brothers, Eugene Vester Jones, Adolphos Jones, and James Garfield Jones. Mr. Jones was a First Sergeant, Green Beret, and paratrooper in the United States Army. He served with the 8th Infantry Division, 101st Airborne Division, Special Forces as an infantryman, master rigger, and jump master. Mr. Jones served one combat tour in Korea and two combat tours in Vietnam. Mr. Jones received a Bronze Star, Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Jump Master Badge, and Expert Sharpshooter Badge. After serving his country for over 20 years, he worked for Hercules and Yellow Freight. He enjoyed fishing, crabbing, and golf. He also enjoyed making blackberry wine. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Patricia S. Jones; a daughter, Beckie Jones Suyes; and a son, Bart Jones. He also had five grandchildren, Jennifer Moogalian Fisher, Matthew Langford, Melanie Browning (Heath), Gerald Placensia, and Montana McCallister (Jamie); and four great-grandchildren, Angelina Langford, Ethan Browning, Evelyn Browning, and Eleanor Browning. A graveside service will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Prince George Presbyterian Church Cemetery, to commemorate Patricia and Gerald's 67th wedding anniversary. This service will also honor Patricia and Gerald's beloved daughter Beverly as well.
