Geraldine "Gerrie" Bergholm Jones, 94, of Colonial Heights, died peacefully on August 22, 2024, at her home at Dunlop House. She was born and raised in Duluth, Minnesota, to Oscar "Gup" and Eleanor Bergholm. She met and married James Bolling Jones, Sr. in Colorado, in 1952, and was married to him for 60 years, until his death on September 6, 2012. After several moves, the family settled in Petersburg to raise their three boys.
After raising those three rambunctious boys, she attended Virginia State University, where she earned her BS and MS degrees. Gerrie taught for over 10 years in the Petersburg School System, teaching Business Education, and was the head of the Cooperative Office of Education within the school system. She continued her career as a technical writer for Phillip Morris, Inc., in Richmond, Virginia, where she developed a variety of instructional programs and manual. She retired from Philip Morris in 1993, and she enjoyed many years of travel with her husband. She was involved with Toastmaster and was an avid and competitive bridge player. Gerrie is a member of Grace Lutheran Church, in Chester, Virginia, and was a previous member of Second Presbyterian Church, in Petersburg, Virginia. She loved to paint, play bingo, and complete all types of puzzles and word games. Gerrie continued with her writing by authoring several articles in the Dunlop House newsletter, usually titled "That's What Gerrie Thinks."
Gerrie was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband; as well as, her sister, Lois; sister-in-law, Patricia Bergholm; and daughter-in-law, Gwyn Jones. She is survived by her brother, Donald Bergholm (Clare); sons, James B. Jones, Jr. (Kathy), Frank S. Jones, and Charles S. Jones (Grace); grandchildren, James B. Jones III (Rebecca), Christopher Jones (Blythe), Sarah Keener (Robbie), Molly Lehatto (Andy), Charles Jones II, and Tracy Mason (Chad); and great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and James B. Jones IV, Caroline and Kennedy Keener, Zachary and Mason Lehatto, and Karysyn and Brady Mason; and several nieces and nephews.
Since her husband's death, she resided in Dunlop House, in Colonial Heights, where she lived a life surrounded by friends and family. There is no doubt she is in heaven with her beloved "Jimmy."
