Gertrud Thumser

Gertrud Annemarie Charlotte Thumser, 86, born April 7, 1922 in Berlin, Germany, departed this life on Monday, July 21, 2008. She was preceded in death by her husband, MSGT Harold Thumser, U.S. Army Ret. with whom she resided in Matoaca, VA and her son, William R. Thumser. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Leslie Clegg of Pomona, New York; three nieces, Erika Laaks of Germany, Deborah Thumser French of Seattle, WA and Sonya Thumser Matson of Olympia WA; nephews, Gary Thumser of McCleary, WA and Keith Thumser of Olympia, WA and numerous great nieces and nephews. Later in life she attended services at First Assembly of God in Petersburg, VA. In her last days, she remained in the comfort of her home under the care of numerous neighbors, friends and her companion, Samantha Pierce. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 AM Saturday, July 26, at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. There will be a time of visitation prior to the service beginning at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either Ettrick/Matoaca Rescue Squad, 5711 River Road, Matoaca, VA 23803 or Crater Community Hospice, 840 W. Roslyn Road, Colonial Heights, VA 23834.
