Gilmer F. (Gil) Roach passed away due to complications following surgery on November 7, 2010. Gil was born near Lewisburg W. VA., January 13, 1933. He was preceded in death by his youngest son, Bill; and is survived by his daughter, Sharon Gregory, of Manson, N.C.; and his son, Frank Robert (Bob), currently serving with the State Department. He is also survived by three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Gil retired from the Defense General Supply Center in 1989, after 30 years with the federal government. He then worked with the VA Dept. of State Police as one of the original Motorist Assistants. Gil dearly loved this work; as he enjoyed helping people. After sixteen years, he retired from the state, then worked as a part-time shuttle driver for Avis-Budget Rental Car Services, a position he held until his death. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, November 11, 2010 at 12 p.m. in the Chester chapel of J. T. Morriss and Son Funeral home. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will take place in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester. Condolences to the family may be registered online at
