Gladys Maitland Richardson

Gladys Maitland Richardson, 101, of Petersburg, VA, widow of Harvey Nelson Richardson, passed away Wednesday, August 29, 2018. Born and raised in Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late Moment Guy and Mary Ann Thomason Maitland. Mrs. Richardson worked in the Petersburg Public School System and ended her career in the Prince George Public School System. She was an active member of Second Baptist Church and Alpha Chapter No. 1, Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by her daughters, Brenda Poole and husband, Lance Slatten, of Colonial Heights, and Sharon Kanitz and husband, Karl, of Franklin, TN; grandchildren, Bryan Poole and wife, Rita, Lynda Cunningham and husband, Butch, Ronda Keeler, Karson Kanitz Wilson and husband, Philip, and Justin Kanitz and wife, Keri; great-grandchildren, Matthew Cunningham and wife, Jannabeth, Megan Hawkins and husband, James, Jennifer Martinez and husband, Aaron, Amanda Selden and husband, Steven, Nathan Jessup, Monroe Wilson, Livvy Wilson, and Skip Kanitz, seven great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Pearl Brooks, as well as several nieces and a nephew. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Monday, September 10, 2018 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home followed by interment at Southlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Second Baptist Church, 3355 Johnson Road, Petersburg, VA 23805.
