Gladys Morris Toom, 92, of Chester (Enon), Virginia, passed away on March 31, 2022, at Marquis Tualatin Assisted Living in Tualatin, Oregon. Born in Dinwiddie County, she was the daughter of the late George Mobley and Annie Mayes Morris; and was preceded in death by husbands, William Henry Collins, Jr. and Marion "Red" Toom, Jr.; and four sisters, Earnestine Chapman, Olive Barnes, Rachel Cauble, and Caroline Bosher. Mrs. Toom was a graduate of Sunnyside McKenney High School and Smithdeal-Massey Business College. Later in life, she worked as a bookkeeper for Speaker Pollard and Associates, Inc., Hopewell Hardwood Sales, and Days Inn. She was a member of the Bermuda Hundred United Methodist Church and was active in the Methodist Women's Society. She is survived by her son, William H. (Bill) Collins; and three stepdaughters, Julie Kay Vincent and her husband, Phil, Janeen Lea Toom, and Jill Rae Gerstner; and five grandchildren, William Andrew Collins, Elizabeth Anne Collins, Krista Rae De La Vega, Rachel Avants, and Whitney Trible. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September, 24, 2022 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, 820 W. Broadway Avenue, Hopewell, Virginia with the Reverend Hae Rin Lawson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. On Monday, September 26, 2022, at 10:00 a.m., Mrs. Toom will be interred with her late husband "Red" at Arlington National Cemetery. Condolences may be registered at
