Gloria “June” (Adams) Krauss, passed away peacefully, after a life of accomplishment, August 23, 2016. She was 81. June was born in Madisonville, Kentucky, June 1, 1935 to Walter and Irene Adams. She loved her childhood and “the house at Bell Crossing” in Earlington, Kentucky. At 16 she graduated high school and married Paul M Taylor. She attended Murray State College. She gave birth to a son, Jeffrey Kent. She married Richard Louis Krauss, Jr, and gave birth to a daughter, Martha Sue, in 1957. In 1958, June and the children followed Richard’s employer, Reynolds Metals Co. to Richmond. The family stayed temporarily at The Jefferson but soon June and Richard had settled permanently into their small brick house on Richmond’s south side. June earned a degree in library science from Richmond Professional Institute. She was a librarian at Southampton Elementary. She attended the newly established Virginia Commonwealth University and graduated, cum laude, with a Master’s degree in Elementary Education, June, 1971. She taught children’s literature and other courses at VCU. Inspired to oppose proposed changes in her neighborhood, June formed a corporation, raised the funds from neighbors, bought the property in question and developed “Westover Hills West” the way she and the neighborhood wanted. She became a realtor with Pinchbeck, Inc. In 1996 she was recognized for her “outstanding and dedicated service” by the Richmond Chapter of the Women’s Council of the National Association of REALTORS. June Krauss was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, by only 17 days. She is survived by one son, Jeffrey K Krauss (Peggy) of Bozeman, Montana and one daughter, Martha K Smith (McLane) of Disputanta, Virginia. She has four grandchildren, Christopher M. Smith, Rebecca K. Vasquez, W. Wynn Krauss and Ryan W. Krauss, and one great-grandchild, Emma R. Smith.
