Gloria Lee

August 5, 1935 — November 18, 2022

Gloria Mitchell Lee passed away on November 18, 2022. She was a native of City Point and a graduate of Hopewell High School, Virginia Commonwealth University, and The College of William and Mary, from which she received her Master's Degree. Ms. Lee taught in Hopewell as well as Cape Canaveral, Fort Lauderdale, and Orlando, Florida. She completed her teaching career in Gwinnett County, Georgia.

Upon retirement, she returned to City Point, and restored her 126 year old home and garden, in the Historic District. Her love of history extended to working as a guide, docent, gift store manager, and volunteer for the Historic Hopewell Foundation.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Emmanuel and Garifalia Mitchell. Ms. Lee is survived by her sisters, Katherine Cosmidis and Mary Calos; nephews, Sam Pinkleton, Nicholas Cosmidis, and Stefan Calos. She is survived by nieces, Kimberly Calos, Jennifer Cosmidis, Alexa Calos, and Ariana Calos.

A private graveside burial was held at Saint John's Episcopal Church, of City Point, officiated by Father Bill Taylor. Donations may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church or Historic Hopewell Foundation. The family was served by the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
